Are you passionate about housing, your community, and ensuring tenants' voices are heard? Mid Devon Housing is looking for tenants or leaseholders to join the Homes Policy Development Group (PDG) as co-opted Tenant Representatives. The Homes PDG assists the Council and Cabinet by analysing performance and policy and has a primary focus on housing matters such as delivering new affordable social homes annually, overseeing the Housing Revenue Account, neighbourhood and tenancy management and tenant involvement. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape housing policies and ensure that council services truly reflect the needs and priorities of our tenants. You'll find a summary of the role below and full details in the documents section on the right.

What’s the role about?

As a Tenant Representative, you will:

  • Act as an advocate for MDH tenants and leaseholders, focusing on shared concerns like rent and service charges, housing maintenance, and neighbourhood safety.
  • Help review information, data, and policies to ensure tenant priorities are at the heart of decisions.
  • Participate in discussions, contribute ideas, and influence the direction of housing services.
  • Work collaboratively with council staff and PDG members to improve housing standards across Mid Devon.

This role is not about raising individual concerns but tackling wider issues that impact all tenants.

What’s involved?

  • Attend 4 meetings a year (in-person or online) and prepare by reviewing reports, financial data, and other key documents.
  • Contribute effectively to discussions and decision-making.
  • Commit to respecting confidentiality, maintaining professionalism, and working respectfully with others.
  • Take part in free training to help you succeed in the role.

Who can apply?

You can apply if:

  • You are an MDH tenant or leaseholder over 18 years old and have been one for at least six months.
  • You’re confident using a computer, email, and online platforms for remote meetings and document access.

Unfortunately, you’re not eligible if you:

  • Are an MDDC Councillor, Officer, or closely related to one.
  • Have been convicted of an offence, are an undischarged bankrupt, or owe significant debts (such as rent arrears) to MDDC.

What’s in it for you?

  • £500 per year to recognize your time and commitment.
  • Ongoing training and practical support to develop your skills.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in shaping housing services and improving your community.
