Under the Licensing Act 2003 ('the Act'), the Council is the licensing authority and is responsible for licensing and overseeing licensable activities as set out in the Act. The Act requires the Council to prepare and publish a statement of licensing policy with respect to its licensing functions at least every five years.
The Council’s current Statement of Licensing Policy came into effect on 7 January 2019, and a review has been carried out to identify if the policy remains fit for purpose. In order to satisfy the specific legal requirements set out in the Act, the Council needed to carry out a consultation process on the proposed Statement of Licensing Policy. There were only minor amendments and additions from the previous Statement of Licensing Policy 2019, therefore the consultation ran for a shorter period of 6 weeks from 12 July to 23 August 2024.
We welcomed feedback and comments on the content of the revised policy, and we also wanted to know if there is anything missing from the policy that may need to be considered in relation to the licensing objectives:
