Mid Devon Housing is reviewing its Aids and Adaptations Policy and we'd like to hear your views.

The policy explains how we support tenants and members of their household who have a disability or long-term health condition to remain safe, independent and living comfortably in their homes. It sets out how requests for aids and adaptations are assessed, what support may be available, and the timescales for delivering adaptations.

This consultation is open from 20 July 2026 to 17 August 2026. Your feedback will help us ensure the policy is fair, transparent and continues to meet the needs of our tenants and communities.

What is changing?

The updated policy provides clearer information about:

  • Who can apply for aids and adaptations.
  • The difference between aids, minor adaptations and major adaptations.
  • How requests are assessed and prioritised.
  • Expected timescales for completing adaptation work.
  • How funding decisions are made.
  • When alternative housing options may be considered.
  • Appeals and complaints processes.

Why are we reviewing the policy?

We want to make sure our policy:

  • Supports people to live independently for as long as possible.
  • Makes best use of our housing stock and adapted homes.
  • Provides clear and accessible information.
  • Delivers a fair and consistent service.
  • Reflects current legislation, regulatory expectations and best practice.
  • Makes effective use of available funding to support those in greatest need.
