We are your council, as such we welcome feedback and ways we can improve the work we do, and how we do it. Here are a few examples of how your feedback has directly led to changes by us.
Tenant suggestion: Competitions for the best gardens or garden of the month or similar.
What we did: A Mid Devon in Bloom competition will go live with the Spring newsletter. There are three categories: best garden, best wildlife or sustainable garden and best young gardener. The winners will receive a Love to Shop voucher.
Tenant suggestions: ‘Tenant's get together e.g., a club or a coffee morning’ and ‘Maybe having a drop-in session for an informal chat with a member of staff would be a good idea’ and ‘Possibly an informal coffee morning for tenants to meet and discuss issues with MDDC staff on hand to help resolve issues raised’.
What we did: Rebranded and expanded our Winter Warmth Club to Community Cuppa and expanded to Crediton and Cullompton from May. These will be held at the leisure centres on the first Wednesday of every month where the tenants have a chance to pop by for a coffee, chat, talk about any concerns they have. We will also be joined by income officers, neighbourhood officers and other partnerships from time to time for an informal chat with tenants. The Tiverton Community Cuppa will continue once a week at Westfield Road common room.
Tenant suggestion: Maybe bits for children at Easter
What we did: Encouraged children to take part in our Easter colouring, with templates of Easter eggs for children at the front desk of Exe Valley Leisure Centre. Finished eggs will be posted on our social media pages.
Tenant suggestion: I would like to have access to an open and frank forum where one could have an input to how things are done, and what we, as tenants, can do to make things better.
What we did: The Council is putting together a scrutiny panel in the next coming weeks so tenants can do exactly this. More information will follow soon.
Tenant suggestion: Changes to tenant literature
What we did: Redesigned the tenant damp and mould leaflet in consultation with tenants, based on feedback from tenants and the ombudsman that there was too much focus on tenant responsibility and on lifestyle impact.
