We’re working on our next Local Plan called ‘Plan Mid Devon’ which will guide development in the district over a 20 year period and aims to ensure that new homes, jobs and services needed by communities are located in the most sustainable places. It will also help deliver the infrastructure, facilities, land for habitat creation/enhancement and other developments needed to make this possible.
A Local Plan includes policies to guide decisions on WHERE and HOW new developments take place and which parts of the district will be protected. Our current Local Plan steers development up to 2033 and will continue to bring many benefits to the area. Our new plan, Plan Mid Devon will ensure that the district's current and future needs will be met up to 2043.
A consultation was held between 31 January - 28 March 2022. We had to make sure we identified all of the most important matters that Plan Mid Devon will need to address. As part of the consultation we asked for feeback on our:
Issues Paper
Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report
Equalities Impact Assessment Screening Report
This Issues Paper and associated documents set out what we believe should be out six top prioritites:
Our six priorities:
Priority One - Responding to climate change and moving to net zero carbon future
Priority Two - Delivering development, infrastructure and regeneration
Priority Three - Addressing housing affordability improving choice
Priority Four - Protecting and enhancing the natural and built environment
Priority Six - Supporting rural vitality and a prosperous rural economy
These 6 priorities explore a range of themes and matters that are relevant to our towns, villages and rural parts of the district. We believe that responding to the climate emergency and moving to a net-zero carbon future should be our overarching priority.
This consultation was the first step in preparing Plan Mid Devon with further consultations coming where you will be able to help shape the future of the district.
