Under the Gambling Act 2005, the Council, as the Licensing Authority, has a legal duty to review, revise and carry out a public consultation on the proposed policy. The policy remains in force for a period of 3 years. The Statement outlines how the Council deals with applications, enforces the legislation and how decisions are made in accordance with the three licensing objectives as stipulated in the Gambling Act 2005.
There were only minor amendments and additions from the previous Statement of Principles 2021, therefore the consultation ran for a shorter period of 6 weeks from 12 July to 23 August 2024.
We welcomed feedback and comments on the content of the revised policy, and we also wanted to know if there is anything missing from the policy that may need to be considered, particularly in relation to the licensing objectives:
The Protection of Children or other vulnerable persons from being exploited
Preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime
Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
