This consultation has now closed - Thank you to everyone that took the time to respond. Your feedback is now being used to help make a decision on a downsizing incentive and a recommendation will be taken to the Homes Policy Development Group in March 2025.

On 9th July 2024, Cabinet agreed, after a recommendation of the Homes Policy Development Group (PDG) that use of flexible tenancies be halted. This means we are no longer issuing flexible tenancies to tenants and those on this tenancy type will eventually move onto a secure tenancy.

Mid Devon Housing has used flexible tenancies since 2013, one of the reasons being that tenancies could be reviewed on a periodic basis which gave registered housing providers the ability to end a flexible tenancy if the tenant was found to be under occupying a home. This made better use of housing stock and freed up homes for those that required more bedrooms.

However, after a recent review of flexible tenancies, it was agreed that they had a negative effect on the mental health of tenants, they had not delivered the benefits they were intended to and they were difficult to manage.

Although a decision was made to abolish flexible tenancies, it was recognised that MDH should explore incentives to encourage tenants to downsize. Members of the Homes PDG are working together to decide what incentives MDH should opt for. This is where we need your help.

At the bottom of this page is a quick survey that will help us understand your views on a downsizing incentive. Your feedback will help inform Councillor's decision on what downsizing incentives MDH may use in the future. If you wish to receive a physical copy in the post with a pre paid envelope, please get in touch with the Tenant Involvement team using the details on the right.

Have your say and help change the service we offer you.
